| Second Kahuna Surf Series event postponed for three weeks | Kahuna Surf Series Western Province Surfing sanctioned contests for future surf stars Muizenberg – October 6 & 7 Melkbosstrand – October 27 & 28 Kommetjie – December 1 & 2
Second Kahuna Surf Series event postponed for three weeks Finals of first event provisionally scheduled for Sunday afternoon The Kahuna Surfing Academy regrets to announce that the second event in the Kahuna Surf Series has been postponed for three weeks due to a complete absence of waves at Melkbosstrand.
“It seems that Kahuna and Neptune are not in sync at the moment,” said Dene Botha, organiser of the KSS. “The ocean is absolutely flat right now and according to the wave prediction models there will not be any waves at all on the Atlantic coast until possibly Sunday afternoon.”
With WP Surfing and Volcom events scheduled for the Peninsula on first two weekends in November, the second of three events in the KSS will now be staged at Melkbosstrand on the weekend 17-18 November.
“We realise that the new dates are in the middle of school exams which will make it difficult for some of the competitors to attend, but surfing events are dependent on the wave and weather conditions and there are other events that have been scheduled for the next two weekends,” added Botha.
However, with just two hours of competition required to complete the finals of the first event in the series, postponed due to extreme weather conditions at Muizenberg at the beginning of the month, Botha hopes to crown the champions of the first event this weekend.
“Hopefully we can run the finals of KSS #1 on Sunday afternoon, probably at Long Beach in Kommetjie, when the swell comes up on Sunday,” he explained. “All the finalists from the first event are requested to contact us on 021 783 4965 or 082 687 8434 by 10am on Sunday for an update on this.”
The finals are provisionally scheduled to run between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday 28 October followed by the awards ceremony where thousands of Rands in surf industry products will be presented to the top performers.
The finalists from the postponed Muizenberg event are:
U16 Boys Daniel Wilson (Tokai); Dominic Notten (St James); Grant Arendse (Strandfontein); James Lowe (Kommetjie)
U16 Girls Anna Notten (St James); Caitlin Morris (St James); Jessie Goodman (Oranjezicht); Leigh Geyer (Brackenfell)
